Proposed Bill could affect MacDill AFB Personnel

State Representative Kevin Ambler (R-Tampa) announced the 2010 "Ought to be a Law" student legislation, which is titled Smoking in Vehicles with Minor Passengers, was officially filed in the Florida House of Representatives Feb. 18. The next step in the process is for the bill to be referred to its various Committees and Councils in the Florida House.

Today Governor Charlie Crist signed historic legislation for state and local rail systems. The bill passed in a Special Session of the Florida Legislature last week, which many say is the first step in also bringing high speed rail to Florida.

A Tampa lawmaker is trying to convince Florida officials to spend millions of state dollars left over this fiscal year on Alzheimer's Disease and diabetes research initiatives in Tampa.
With barely two weeks remaining in 2008-2009, Rep. Kevin Ambler hopes the state will agree to pour as much as $11 million into the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer's Center & Research Institute and a diabetes research initiative at the University of South Florida.

There's hardly a worse time to be begging the Legislature for state funding, but after getting no money last year, officials with the Johnnie B. Byrd Sr. Alzheimer's Center and Research Institute are desperately doing just that.
They're seeking at least $5 million for the gleaming institute on the University of South Florida campus, and they warn of dire consequences if they don't get it: losing their federal designation as an Alzheimer's research center.
